Nancy Jane Hess

Nancy J. (Husson), Hess, 98, of Lancaster, passed into the caring hands of the Lord on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Brethren Village. She was the loving wife of Robert E. Hess with whom she celebrated 76 years of marriage in March.

Nancy was born in Harrisburg, graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School, worked as a secretary at Hamilton Watch, Co. and volunteered at the USO to help in the WWII war effort. While maintaining an immaculate home, Nancy raised two sons, loved four grandchildren, and adored six great grandchildren. Family and friends were always made welcome at her table. She enjoyed decades of dancing and dining with her dear card club friends, trips to the ocean, world traveling and crafting elaborate scrapbooks. Throughout her lifetime Nancy was blessed to hold so many dear friends close to her heart. She enjoyed nature, tending flower gardens, walking and she also loved dogs.

Nancy was a long standing Sunday school teacher and choir member at Bethany United Methodist Church and later a devoted member of Covenant United Methodist Church. Mailing cards to church members was her personal mission.

Patients and staff at Osteopathic Hospital, Community Hospital, Heart of Lancaster Hospital and later UPMC Hospital benefited from the many years Nancy and Robert served together as onsite volunteers. Nancy was also quick to volunteer to provide meals when friends and neighbors fell ill or ran into misfortune.

Nancy’s husband, sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors will greatly miss her loving, kind, gentle, caring nature and will forever cherish her precious memory.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Nancy’s Celebration of Life service at Covenant United Methodist Church, 110 N. Mulberry St., Lancaster, PA 17603 on October 6, 2023. Friends may greet the family at noon until the service begins at 1:00 pm. Reverend Derrick Gutierrez and Reverend Sally Ott will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Nancy’s memory to the church address above. To leave an online condolence, please visit: www.717cremate.com
