Gilbert Augustus Smart Jr., Lancaster, died March 5 after a short battle with cancer. He was 88.
Born Feb. 16, 1936, in Yonkers, N.Y. he was the son of the late Gilbert A. and Emma (Sackett) Smart. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Yonkers and Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y.; his subsequent career included stints with Macy’s, Shell Oil and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
He enjoyed reading, gardening, working on plastic models and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, who died in 2021. The couple was married for 56 years.
He is survived by two sons, Gilbert A. Smart, husband of Kimberly Smart of Jensen Beach, FL, and Gregory A. Smart, husband of Donna Smart of Denver, PA; a daughter, Julie Fidler, wife of the late Scott Fidler, of Lancaster; a brother, Geoffrey A. Smart of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
