Alice Marie Shermeyer

Alice M. Shermeyer, 61, formerly of York, passed away on June 13, 2023 at Neffsville Nursing and Rehab in Lancaster.  She was the daughter of the late Maynard E. and Alverta V. Shermeyer of York. She was a thoughtful and caring person and will be greatly missed by her family.

Alice was born on March 20, 1962 at Columbia Hospital. She graduated from Eastern York High School in 1980.  Alice earned a BS degree in Administration of Justice from Pennsylvania State University in 1985.

Alice worked at the York County Youth Development Center as a youth counselor and case manager for many years.

Alice was a long time member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in York, PA.  She sang in the youth and adult church choirs and assisted with services as an acolyte.

Alice was an avid fan of Penn State sports, Nascar, country music, and enjoyed arts and crafts.  She especially enjoyed staying in touch with family and friends with birthday cards and letters.

Alice is survived by her sister, Diane Robinson and brother-in-law, Kevin; brother, Brian Shermeyer and sister-in-law, Mary Logan Shermeyer; and grandmother, Violet Deamer. Other surviving relatives include her Aunt Janet Berkheimer, Aunt Loretta Bailey, and Uncle Harry Shermeyer;  numerous cousins; seven nieces and nephews and two great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bradley Shermeyer, along with a nephew, Connor Shermeyer.

A private family service and interment will be held at a later date at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in York, PA.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Alice’s memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 896, Hershey, PA. 17033-0896.
