  • Shirley, Sharley and Murray grew up in Ephrata, PA with their parents, Eddie and Irene. Their mother and my mother were best friends and each family lived in half of a double house at 205 and 207 South State Street. When the twins, Shirley and Sharley, were babies, my mother loved helping Irene because they cried at different times.

After Irene died, my family kept in touch with them and their dad even when the girls lived at an orphanage in Topton, PA. After Eddie married Elva, we visited them frequently. I visited Shirley when Sharley was staying at her house while visiting PA. It was good to see them.

My mother, Helen Brown, and Irene were best friends. At the time of my mother’s death in 1964 (age 54), as she was leaving this life, she sat up in bed reaching heavenward and calling ” Irene, Oh Irene.”! It was as if my mother could see her best friend, Irene, coming to meet her.

All of you have our deepest sympathy in the loss of your mother and grandmother.
    Sincerely,
    La Verne and Bill Hyman
