Walter M. Margavage, 72, of Pequea went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. He passed away peacefully at home after a seven year battle with cancer. He was born in Swoyersville, Luzerne County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark W. Margavage.
Walt worked for Swisher International, Inc. for 51 years, starting out sweeping floors. He oversaw Swisher’s operations at the Lancaster Leaf plant when he retired in 2012.
Walt was a member of the Pequea Brethren In Christ Church where he served on the food services ministry team. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, fishing and just tinkering around the house. Walt had a strong, steady faith in God. Through his failing health he often prayed, “Thank you God for everything.”
Walt is survived by his loving wife M. Jill Margavage. He will be missed by his stepchildren and their spouses and families: Jason and Kelci Robbins of East Earl; Corey and Karen Robbins of Crafton, PA; Joel and Rachel Buch of Lancaster. Walt is also survived by a brother, Mark W. Margavage and two nephews from Luzerne County.
Walt was predeceased by his first wife, Earldine L. Margavage, of Marietta, Georgia. He is survived by his former wife’s grandson, Michael Pierce and family of Lancaster.
A memorial service will be held at Pequea Brethren in Christ Church, 40 Church Road, Lancaster, PA (off Penn Grand Road) on Sunday, Aug. 2, at 4:00PM. A period of visitation will follow.
