Shirley M. Herr, formerly of Lancaster PA, passed away peacefully at Ephrata Manor on November 30, 2023 after a lengthy illness. Born Shirley Ann Mathiot in Lancaster PA on May 21, 1930, she was the daughter of Edgar T. Mathiot and Irene M. Mathiot (Fassnacht). Shirley graduated from Penn Manor High School in 1948 where she was a flautist in the band. She was employed at the former Bell Telephone Company as an operator in the early 1950s prior to staying home and raising her four children. In 1999 with a party of family and friends, she celebrated 50 years of marriage to David H. Herr, Jr. She enjoyed sewing, reading biographies, gardening, and especially loved attending productions at the Fulton Theater where she was a season ticket holder for many years. She was an active member of the Mother’s Club at Lafayette Elementary School and was a volunteer room mother at the former Mifflin Elementary School. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, daughter Kay Herr, brother Murray P. Mathiot, step-mother Elva Mathiot, and step-brothers Richard and James Kauffman. She is survived by her twin sister Sharley L.Mathiot, Torrence, CA; daughter Judy I. Burciaga (Stephen), Monroe ME; sons David H. Herr, III (Barbara), Boise ID; and Robert E. Herr (Kimberly), Willow Street, PA. She is also survived by grandchildren Laura Wenger (Doug), Dana Bury, Bradley Herr (Paige), Emily Bingham (Jacob), Reesa Olivares (Danny) and Skye Tucker as well as 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also acknowledging the friendship of neighbor Joanne Bear who did so much for her over the years. A private burial by Lancaster Cremation Services will be conducted at a later date.
