Shane Lester Forney

October 24, 1958 — February 28, 2025

Shane Lester Forney, aged 66, of Mountville, Pennsylvania, peacefully entered the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, February 28, 2025, after a brave and valiant 15-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Shane’s life was a testament to strength, love, and unwavering faith.

Shane was born on October 24, 1958, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to parents Albert and Charlotte Forney. He was a proud graduate of Moon Area High School in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, class of 1976. Shane pursued higher education with dedication, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, in 1980, followed by a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1982.

For 42 years, Shane devoted his life to the field of physical therapy, spending the last 28 years providing compassionate care as a home health physical therapist in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, with Lancaster General Health. His dedication to his patients was an area in which he truly excelled.

A man of many interests, Shane found solace and inspiration in hiking through America’s National Parks, capturing beauty and awe through the lens of his camera. He found joy in sketching and had quite the collection of precious gemstones. A talented baker, he delighted in crafting creative and unique birthday cakes for many family celebrations. Shane was a devoted family man, cherishing every moment spent with his children and grandchildren, whether cheering at their activities or enjoying rides with them at the annual Knoebels trip. A passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Alabama football, he also enjoyed classic western films, Looney Tunes, gardening, and reading his Bible.

Shane’s legacy of love and laughter lives on through his cherished family. He is survived by his three children and their spouses: Nathan (Maryn) Forney, Morgan (Betsy) Forney, and Caitlin (Mark) McNutt. His ten grandchildren—Lenna, Ryken and Wynne Forney; Levi, Rachel, Seth and Hannah Forney; Everett, Charlotte and Rose McNutt—were his greatest joy. He leaves behind his dear sister, Martha Flowers, and brother, Richard Forney. Shane was preceded in death by his loving parents, Albert and Charlotte Forney.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute for their unwavering support and dedication to Shane these past months.

A memorial service to honor Shane’s life will take place on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Hershey Free Church in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Shane’s memory may make contributions to World Vision, a ministry dear to his heart for over 25 years, at https://mycause.worldvision.org/campaign/shaneforney.

As we remember Shane, we hold closely one of his favorite verses : The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
