Ruby Christina Fletcher

d. July 26, 2022

With great sadness, Ruby Christina Fletcher’s family announces that she left this Earth to be with her Heavenly Father on July 26, 2022. She was 56 years old.

Born on December 13, 1965 in Atlanta, GA, her parents, Dr. Gerald F. Fletcher and Lynn Wiggins Fletcher, who met at Emory University, had two children: David Ladd Fletcher and Ruby Christina Fletcher.

Christie achieved a lot in her life, graduating in 1986 from The University of South Carolina in Broadcast Journalism and Mass Media. She did well in Broadcasting, working first as a prime-time Anchor in News and Weather at WITF PBS in Harrisburg, PA. Then she moved back to her roots and became a morning Anchor at WIS-TV in Columbia, SC, followed by prime-time anchoring at KGUN-9 in Tucson, AZ, a Corpus Christi CBS Station, and K-EYE News in Austin, TX. She worked last at QVC in Philadelphia.
As a Broadcaster, she won The Gracie Award, for Outstanding Women in TV and Radio in 1998, named after Gracie Allen. She also covered the CMA Awards on the Red Carpet for K-EYE News, interviewing Vince Gill, Shania Twain, Randy Travis and many others.

The love of Christie’s life was always horses and dogs—-God’s Creatures. She started riding American Saddlebred Horses at 5, and by 7, had set her goal to win the UPHA Equitation Championship at the Kansas City Royal, which she achieved at the age of 16, in November 1983.

Christie also loved dogs and chose to get Rescues from the Humane Society as her pets. In Sarasota she started her dog Tampa in ‘Search and Rescue’ and loved doing it. She also presented adoptable pets from the Humane Society in Sarasota on the “Jones and Crane” Radio Show every week. After moving to Lancaster, she continued to train dogs and she put Tampa in a Therapy Dog program of visiting Nursing Homes to cheer up the residents. She also wrote a book about her beloved rescue dog Tampa, and contributed much of the sales from her book to the Humane Society and other organizations. “Tampa’s Story” can be found at The Pet Pantry in Lancaster, PA with all proceeds going to help pets in need.

Christie is survived by her brother, David Ladd Fletcher and sister-in-law Kelly Genelle Fletcher of Atlanta, GA, her mother, Lynn Fletcher Smith of Chatsworth, GA, her step-father Wm. Ronald Smith, and her 3 nephews, Hutchison Ralph Fletcher, Henry David Fletcher, and Hudson Burley Fletcher all of Atlanta.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Pet Pantry of Lancaster https://petpantrylc.org/ or PAWS of Atlanta https://www.pawsatlanta.org/ or a NO-KILL Shelter of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 14, at 2:00 pm at Misty Creek Community Church located at 590 Mount Vernon Hwy N.E.,  Atlanta, GA 30328
