Ronald Edwin Funk (known as Duke to his 12 grandchildren) passed away on October 11, 2023. He was born March 19, 1945 in Philadelphia PA to Phillip Henry and Mary Robb Funk.
He is survived by his wife Nancy C Bell, his daughter Kathryn Robb Funk O’Donnell (Troy), stepson Charles Heffernan (Emily) and stepdaughter Linda Heffernan; Grandchildren Patrick, Thomas, and Ryan O’Donnell; Tobin, Arik and Noa Heffernan; Jace, Linc and Cruz Thompson and Vivian, Briggs and Audrey Stroud. He is also survived by a brother Phillip Henry Funk of Concord, New Hampshire.
Ron graduated from The University of Virginia with a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Engineering. He always said the best job he ever had was with John Deere. While Ron enjoyed all things engineering, in retirement he was happiest traveling with his wife and spending time outside in his garden and on the farm with his pups. He was a strong supporter of historic preservation and was devoted to the maintenance and operation of the Historic Bowmansville Roller Mill. His family is deeply appreciative of the care provided by Memorial Sloan Kettering and Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center as Ron fought against advanced pancreatic cancer.
The family is planning a celebration of Ron’s life in the spring. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County, 123 North Prince Street, Lancaster PA 17603.
