Robert Merrill Jr.

Robert W. “Bob” Merrill Jr. 76, of Lancaster, died peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2024 with family by his side. Born October 13, 1948, he was preceded in death by his mother, Frances “Nan” Merrill and William G. Shope Jr. of Mechanicsburg along with his younger brother, Gregory M. Merrill of Mechanicsburg.

Bob was a 1966 Graduate of Trinity High School and received a degree in English at Saint Vincent College then finally accomplishing his Master’s from Millersville University. After years in computer/software sales, he pursued an education in Buddhism, being ordained by Blue Mountain Lotus Society and Zen Garland. He became a chaplain at Saint Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, PA and transitioned into counseling before retirement.

 An avid nature lover and photographer, Bob always had his Nikon camera hanging from his neck with a cigar in his mouth, waiting to capture moments in life with the ones he loved; and wanted to embarrass. Quick with a joke, he could light up a room with his witty sense of humor. He loved traveling to Blues concerts and enjoyed being a “Parrothead”, following Jimmy Buffett. Some of his fondest memories were with his kids, especially coaching their baseball and softball teams. They loved going to Red Sox games or catching them on TV at family gatherings. 

Bob is survived by his children, Meaghan and her spouse Chris Phillips of Manheim, Taylor of Manheim, and Erin of Landisville; two brothers, Lee N. Merrill of Petaluma, CA and Dennis R. Merrill of Ocala, FL. He also had two grandsons, Ryan Phillips and Dylan Phillips of Manheim. Bob absolutely adored those boys.
