Richard F. (Dick) Shultz, 76, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at Hospice surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, July 22, 2017 after a lengthy battle with leukemia.
Dick was born in Lancaster and was preceded in death by his parents, Richard F. (Dick) Shultz and Emma Ruth Potts Shultz. He graduated from Penn Manor High School and served in the National Guard 103 rd Medical Battalion for six years. He has always been passionate about sprint car racing and worked on a pit crew from 1961 to 1963 for the Mis Fire Racing Club at the former Reading Fairgrounds. He was a member of the Vagabonds Car Club and enjoyed taking his 1971 Dodge Dart to car shows with many of his other car-loving friends. He was a long-time member of First Reformed United Church of Christ. He retired from EMM Sales & Service after 35 years of service and then enjoyed working part-time moving cars all over the tristate area for the Jones Family of Dealerships for 5½ years.
Dick is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 52 years, Abby Stiltner Shultz. Dick was a wonderful father to his children Lee Ann Ressler and husband Dave Ressler of Lancaster, PA and Jeff Shultz of Landisville, PA. He is also survived by three grandchildren Josh and Caleb Ressler and Megan Shultz. He adored them and enjoyed taking them to the races at Lincoln Speedway and chauffeuring them to and from and attending their many activities.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:30pm on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Heritage Hotel in the Sherwood Ballroom, 500 Centerville Road, Lancaster, PA, 17601 with the Reverend Dana R. Schlegel officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30am until the time of the service and a luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA, 17604 or First Reformed UCC, 40 East Orange Street; Lancaster, PA, 17602. Dick wanted to send a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kubek and all of the staff at East Petersburg Family Health and Dr. Balepur and all the infusion nurses at LGH Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute for the incredible care he received during his many appointments and treatments. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Hospice & Community Care for their guidance and expert care. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
