Peter Plaxa died peacefully on August 13, 2024 after living courageously for seventy years. Born June 6, 1954 to the late Peter and Elizabeth Pyzowski Plaxa, Pete grew up in Manheim Township alongside beloved older sisters Phyllis and the late Shirley. For over four decades, until just weeks before his death, he worked for himself in sales, proudly supporting his family despite the considerable physical limitations of progressive multiple sclerosis. He found joy in nature, in many treasured Plaxa family holiday traditions, and as an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lancaster.
He devoted his time and love to Kathleen, his wife of nearly forty-three years, as well as his children Kristin (Julian) and Peter (Lauren), and his grandchildren, Petey and Margaret. He demonstrated only slightly less devotion to and love for the Philadelphia Eagles. In addition to the aforementioned family members, Pete is survived by his brother-in law Michael, sisters-in-law Karen and Patti, his niece and nephews, dedicated caregivers, and a host of friends, all of whom will miss the sense of humor, relentless optimism, and unfailing kindness that defined his remarkable life.
A memorial service will take place at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 321 W. Chestnut St, Lancaster, PA 17603 on Saturday, August 31 at 11 am. Visitation with the family will precede the service, beginning at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, friends and loved ones are invited to make a donation in Pete’s honor to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
