Mary Michele (Shelly) Baumbach, born June 12, 1945, passed away on February 5, 2018 at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA. Only diagnosed in recent months with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) she had shown symptoms many months. She was born in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, the daughter of Mary and Howard Stackhouse. Shelly is survived by her husband of 49 years, Walter.
An RN graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, Shelly loved her patients. A career in medicine was the inevitable outlet for a heart longing to help others. Shelly worked in a variety of medical settings including Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital and Conestoga Oral Surgery. She also worked as an office RN for private physicians. Wherever Shelly did nursing, her patients were the beneficiary of her loving care.
Shelly was also dedicated to the animals that filled her life. From horses, her fiercest passion, to the dogs and cats that found a welcome mat at her home in Willow Street, Shelly loved them and wanted to save them all. An active, dedicated volunteer when she was able and a financial supporter later in life, Shelly’s heart ached for unwanted and uncared for animals. She often said animals saved her life and she wanted to do the same for them.
