Poet and Loving Grandmother

Judith “Jodi” A. (Harris) Pfleger, 83 passed away on June 22, 2024 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA after a long battle with her health.

Jodi was born July 9, 1940 in Oaklandon, IN to Eugene and Iris (Mundell) Harris. She is survived by her siblings, Sandy Jackson, Nancy Wheeler, Rebecca Fields, John and Tim Harris. Her teenage years were spent working in the drive-in theater after school with her sister Nancy. 

Jodi graduated from Brownsburg High School in 1958 and served in the US Women's Army Corp from 1958- 1960 where she received her Sharp Shooter certificate and was honorably discharged. In 1960, she married Russell Slack (deceased) to whom she had two children; Tracey E. (Slack) Graver and Jeffrey W. Slack (both residing in Lancaster County, PA). Jodi later re-married to Herbert S. Pfleger in 1972 and gave birth to a son, Gregory A. Pfleger (residing in Happy Valley, OR). They divorced in 1977. 10 years later, she had another daughter, Meghan M. (Murphy) Shreiner (residing in Lancaster County, PA) to Michael M. Murphy. Jodi was the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. 

An avid poet, with 2 published poems and notebooks full of her writings. Jodi loved gardening, sewing, cooking, roller skating and the beach. Her love of cooking led her to own the former Delux Diner in Lancaster, PA for a few years. She held several administrative positions and even drove escort for over-sized loads for several years. 

Jodi will be remembered for her love of picnics, her humor and her fighting spirit. For the last 2.5 years, she resided at her grand-daughter’s home surrounded by 3 of her great grand-sons. 

There will be a short 30 minute “Honors Ceremony” at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 10 am. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in her honor.
