Joseph R. Golden, 83, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully Monday, May 9, 2016 at Manor Care Nursing Home.
Born in Williamsport, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Rogers) Golden.
Joe is survived by Barbara (Decker), his wife of 29 years, sons Kenneth and Michael, both of Washington Boro, son James (Cindy) of Williamsport and daughter Anne, of Wyomissing. In addition, he is survived by two brothers, George Golden and Anthony Golden, both of Williamsport, eight grandchildren and seven great grand children.
Joe served in the US Army during the Korean War. He attended Lock Haven State College. Joe was a professional singer who recorded at RCA Victor in NYC and wrote, directed and hosted several musical fund raising events for various charities. He often entertained in local nursing homes. He also had a long career in the food service industry.
Over the past 29 years that he lived in Lancaster, he sang with many of the area’s finest musicians. Many recordings have been left behind as his legacy; he was known as the man with the golden voice. He had a great love of cats and helped rescue many. He was also an avid golfer.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at American Legion, Post 34, Acadia Road, where Joe was a member, on June 19th at 2:00 pm.
