John West Hare, of Terre Hill, Pennsylvania, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 1, 2023. He passed peacefully at his home. He was the loving husband of Dorothy for 45 years before her passing in April 2000.
Born on August 14, 1929 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William and Susan Hare. John served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Radar Equipment Foreman. He was a Free Mason; a member of the Palestine-Roxborough Lodge No.135 F. & A.M. for 73 years. He worked for the School District of Philadelphia as a maintenance supervisor. John was also passionate about horses. He owned several throughout his life, including most recently, Joey, Ezekiel and Jerry. Always known as a selfless man of God, for many years John volunteered his time at Greystone Manor Therapeutic Riding Center, combining his passions of horses and helping others. He was a family man, and spent lots of time with his grandchildren- attending their musical/sporting events, taking them for rides in his pony cart, and overall, being a solid presence in their lives. John was also a faithful member of New Holland Church of the Nazarene for over 20 years.
John is survived by his loving children: a daughter, Dawn Adams, wife of David, of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania and a son, Robert Hare, husband of Kelley, of East Earl, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Heather (Jason) Mayer, Stephanie (Robert) Jacobs, and Christopher (Erin) Hare, as well as four great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Mayer, Logan Mayer, Lincoln Jacobs, and Charlotte Hare.
A celebration of John’s life and legacy will be held on Friday, March 17th at New Holland Church of the Nazarene, 428 Ranck Rd. New Holland, PA 17557. Family and friends will be received at the church at 5:00 to 5:30, with the service beginning at 5:30.
