Evelyn June Shuman
June 11, 1931 – August 29, 2016
Evie Shuman, 85, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2016 at Hospice and Community Care in Mt. Joy.
Evie was born and lived her entire life in Lancaster County. She was preceded in death by her parents Lillian and Isaac and brother of Penryn, PA. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ray, daughter Susan Benz of Jupiter, FL and sons David Shuman and Joyce Perkinson of Lancaster and Steve Shuman and wife Leslie of Vonore, TN. Evie and Ray also have 4 grand children and 7 great grandchildren. Other family includes sister Lorraine Lapp of Manheim and brother Paul Grube of Las Vegas, NV.
Evie graduated from Manheim Central High School in 1949. She worked for over 35 years as a nurse, then a bank teller and branch manager before retiring in 1992 from Wachovia Bank..
Evie also served her community throughout her life. Professionally, she was an active member in the Association of Bank Women and also served on the board of directors of the Administrative Management Society. She volunteered for numerous Lancaster County based charities including the American Cancer Society, MS Society and Lititz Legion Axillary. Evie chaired fund raising events for the Arthritis Foundation and served as President of the Lititz Community Chest. She was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lititz. She also worked the voting polls for many years..
Evie enjoyed New York theatre and shopping – and shared her love of the city with her friends and family. Evie also enjoyed attending auctions and mud sales across Lancaster County, especially with her sister. She was an avid reader and enjoyed time in her garden and practiced farm to table long before it was popular. For vacations, Evie preferred time at the beach, frequently Ocean City, NJ. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends and always loved a good joke.
Evie lived her entire married life in Lititz with Ray. She never missed a Lititz parade but the Halloween parade was her favorite! She also attended the
July 4th
celebrations and Annual Art Shows faithfully. She also was known to spend some time at the horse track and enjoyed occasional trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
Evie loved her family and her community deeply and lived her life in service to others. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A time of gathering and sharing memories will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lititz from
4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
