Edward Leech

March 30, 1968 — December 19, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward “Ed” Douglas Leech, who left us peacefully at the age of 56 on December 19, 2024. Ed was born on March 30th 1968, in Watsontown, Pennsylvania, to Gary and Susan Leech. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ed had a passion for the great outdoors, and his love of nature was only rivaled by his love for his family. A lifelong enthusiast of hunting and fishing, Ed found peace and joy in the quiet of the woods and the stillness of the water. He was an avid hunter, but it was his dedication to catfishing that truly defined his connection to nature. Many early mornings and long evenings were spent by the riverbanks, lakes, and ponds, fishing rod in hand, waiting for the perfect catch. His tales of "the one that got away" and the fish that “almost broke the line” will be fondly remembered by friends and family alike.

Ed’s love for catfishing was more than just a hobby; it was a tradition he passed down to his children and grandchildren, teaching them patience, perseverance, and the importance of spending time together. Many summers were spent on the water, creating lasting memories and sharing quiet and even thrilling moments that will forever be cherished.

Ed was also known for his warmth and generosity. He had a kind heart and a gentle spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He loved to share his outdoor knowledge, whether it was helping a friend track a deer or teaching a young child how to bait a hook. Ed’s humor and laughter were infectious, and his presence brought comfort and light to those around him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Lucille Leech; his 6 children; his cherished grandchildren; his sisters, Sylvia Strauser and Vickie Leech; his brother, Gary Leech JR.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at Akron United Zion Church on January 11 @ 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ed’s honor to Pennsylvania Game Commission to help support wildlife conservation, a cause he was passionate about.

Ed’s legacy will live on through the stories shared around a lit lantern, the fishing rods still waiting by the pond, and the lessons he imparted to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a man who truly understood the beauty of nature and the importance of family, and his memory will be cherished forever.

Rest in peace, Ed. May you always find a quiet pond to fish and a peaceful forest to roam.
