Dorothy “Jean” Spence, known by many as Mom, Gram, Gram Cracker (Gram Cookie), Mama Jean or Jeanne, went home to be with the Lord. Jean was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on September 1 st , 1952, to Frank Berghold (deceased) and Dorothy “Dottie” Berghold “Keim” (deceased). Jeanne passed away at Lancaster General Hospital in the late evening of November 27 th , 2023, after a quick and intense health battle. She is survived by her son William “Will” Spence and her daughter in law Crystal; her four grandchildren Victoria, Joshua, Arya, and Leylani; her siblings Alton (Linda) Henn, Frank (Karen) Berghold, Wendy (Jim) Treichler, Cherie (Jeff Reinert) Weller and many nieces and nephews.
No matter how many times life knocked her down, Jean continued to get back up. Jeanne always had a heart for otherswhich became evident in her career as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. Following her graduation from LCCC (Lehigh Carbon Community College) with an associate degree in occupational therapy, Jean began her career at Inglis House in Philadelphia.
Jean’s love for others was so great that you could not help but feel it. She was affectionately known as Mama Jean by many of the people that she interacted with throughout her life. First and foremost, Jeans heart belonged to Jesus and to the ones that loved her most she was known as mom or gram. Jean was a faithful follower of Jesus who exemplified the words of Matthew 25:21 “Well done, my good and faithful servant…”
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Spring City Fellowship, 540 Glass Avenue Spring City, PA 19475, on December 16 th , 2023. Visitation will begin at 1pm, service will start at 2pm and refreshments will follow. Anyone who wishes to attend please wear bright colored clothes in honor of a life worth celebrating.
