Donald Anthony Mcdonough

Donald “Tony” McDonough of Red Lion, PA and formerly of Central Square, NY and North Syracuse, NY passed away peacefully at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family.

Tony was born in Syracuse, NY to the late Willis and Marian (Abel) McDonough. As a child, he would often be seen with a fishing pole in his hand or swimming in the Oneida River. His lifelong friends have many fond memories of Tony, from playing football to heartfelt conversations to a headstrong personality that also knew how to have a great time.

Tony graduated from Central Square HS and earned his associate degree from SUNY Morrisville. He owned and operated his own landscape company for many years before joining the team at Wine Merchants, LTD for over 30 years. He served as the Union Steward and retired from the Teamsters Local 317. Subsequently, Tony
worked as a driver for the Red Lion Bus Company, then as the Park Manager of Crestview Acres. He truly enjoyed the people, as well as the job.

Tony and his wife Nancy, the love of his life, shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. Although Tony rarely expressed his love verbally to others, he had a huge heart that he devotedly shared with his wife and children, the center of his world.

Tony is survived by his wife, Nancy (Burns) McDonough; his daughter, Kathleen M. Green and husband James; his son First Sergeant Patrick W.J. McDonough and wife Corina; and his five grandchildren that he adored, John (Jack) and Ryan Green and Riley, Owen, and Avary McDonough.

He is also survived by his nephew, Joseph Rossi and his niece, MaryBeth (Rossi) Carella. Along with his parents, Tony is predeceased by his sister Patricia (McDonough) Rossi.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Rose of Lima, 409 South Main Street, North Syracuse, NY 13212 on April 6, 2024 at 10:30. A private family celebration of Tony’s life will follow the mass.
