Catherine Y Richardson

d. May 15, 2024

Catherine Y Richardson, 61, of Lancaster, PA died at home after an 8-plus year battle
with colorectal cancer on May 15 th , 2024. She passed peacefully surrounded by loved
ones.
She was born in the city of Camillus, New York in 1962 to Ormond Yuerhs and Helen
Yuerhs (Ledebuhr). Cathy went to West Genesee High School before studying Dietetics
at Syracuse University, before going to work for Marriott Food Service as a Registered
Dietitian in upstate New York.
Cathy was preceded in death by her brother Ormond Yuerhs Jr, her sister Deborah Hunt
(Yuehrs), Ormond Yuerhs Sr, and Helen Yuerhs (Ledebur). She is survived by her
husband Philip Richardson and her children Jordyn Richardson, Halle Richardson and
Philip Richardson Jr.
There will be no funeral service, but a celebration of life for family and friends will be
held later.
One request to pass on: Don’t skip your colonoscopy, not even by a few months.
Cathy met Philip when he was her boss at Sharon Hospital in Connecticut. They were
married on September 22 nd , 1990, in Syracuse, New York. They eventually settled in
Lancaster County, raising their children here and starting the family financial business
The Richardson Group.
Cathy always said the best time of her life was during her time being a mother. It was
very important to her to see her children reach their various milestones.
This spring, Jordyn held a preview wedding for close family members. Cathy so wanted
to hang on until October to see Jordyn get married.
Halle graduated from Penn State University with dual degrees. She was also Magna
Cum Laude. Cathy was joyous at being able to attend this milestone for Halle.
Philp Jr’s school, the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, held a special pre-
graduation so that Cathy could experience Philip getting his degree.
Cathy will be remembered for her kind and welcoming spirit. She constantly opened her
home to friends and family, especially when her kids were little. Each year she hosted
epic Halloween parties for the kids and their classmates. Some of the greatest
memories her children have are of her helping their Halloween costumes come to life.
Cathy loved animals, especially the ones no one else loved. Each summer, she would
take the kids down the street to collect the tadpole eggs from the side of the road before
the puddles dried up. Our house was a zoo with all the animals she brought home to
love.

She was always a fighter, but her battle with cancer was her greatest fight. She
courageously endured treatment after treatment, even when all she wanted to do at
times was give up. Cathy promised to fight this thing to the very end, and that she did.
She will be dearly missed as a mother, a wife, and a friend to all.
