Arlene B. Lawrence, 93, of Lawrence Blvd., passed away peacefully on Sunday evening.
Born and raised in Lancaster County, Arlene was the daughter of the late Abram and Kathryn Brubaker and sister of the late Daniel Brubaker. She was the beloved wife of Melvin Lawrence, with whom she shared 39 years of marriage before his passing in 1994.
Arlene is lovingly remembered by her children: Kathleen Kline, wife of David, of Mountville; Carolyn Donovan, wife of John, of Lancaster; Dr. Steven Lawrence and his wife Janet, of Lancaster, Kentucky; and Glenn Lawrence of Perrysburg, Ohio, husband of the late MaryBeth. She was a proud grandmother of six and great-grandmother of nine.
A lifelong resident of Lancaster County, Arlene held a deep love for her community. She often reminisced about her Pennsylvania Farm Show days, especially winning Grand Champion with her steer, Peanut. For many years, she worked at Lancaster Central Market, where she met her future husband, Melvin. Together, they built a life grounded in family and hard work—she painted the homes he built, raised their children, and even drove a school bus.
Arlene was a devoted homemaker who found joy in gardening, traveling, and cheering on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their sporting events. A charter member of Hempfield United Methodist Church, she remained an active part of the church community for many years.
A private burial service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Arlene’s honor to the SPCA.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
