Antje Shirey, 72, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2014 at Hospice & Community Care’s Bob Fryer & Family Inpatient Center in Mt Joy, after a lengthy illness.
Born on April 20, 1942 in Kassel, Germany she was the daughter of 2 nd Lieutenant Roland Piesk (deceased) and Annemarie Goericke (deceased). She was a graduate of Heinrich-Schultz-Schule.
She came to the United States in 1959.
Antje was employed as a part-time truck driver, most recently for Lancaster Brewing Company. A job she absolutely loved.
Antje was the first female school bus driver in Lancaster County and many older Conestoga Valley and Penn Manor graduates may remember her as their bus driver.
Her hobbies included gardening, knitting hundreds of potholders which she gave away to strangers as gifts, and scratching off lottery tickets. She loved all animals.
She is survived by two daughters Denise Shirey, St Augustine, Florida and Elaine Shirey, companion of Jeff Dean, Lancaster, Dan Ressler and her younger brother Hannjorg Goericke and his wife, Ingrid, of Marburg, Germany.
The family would like to thank everyone from Lancaster Brewing Company for all they’ve done for Antje. Your friendship was so precious to her. The family also thanks Dr Suzanne Scott and everyone at Oyster Point Family Health Center, the Palliative Care Department at LGH, and the 6 th floor nursing staff at Conestoga View. Special thanks to everyone at Hospice & Community Care who enabled Antje to leave this world in comfort and with a special sense of peace and love.
At Antje’s request, there will be no memorial services.
