John W. Cassels, Sr.

John W. Cassels, Sr. passed away on November 10, 2023. He was born on March 30, 1935 in Glenolden, PA., He graduated from Glenolden High School and attended Gettysburg College. He worked for DuPont, in Wilmington, DE, was a sales representative for Sadler Research and Wilkes Scientific. He later became a part owner of Drexel Distributors, Inc., his family’s business, until his retirement. After retirement he worked for Hechinger’s, Snavely & Sons Lumber, The BonTon and Kelly Cadillac. He was a resident of the Lancaster area since 1996.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Margaret Jane Seifert Cassels. He is survived by Caroline Cassels of West Chester, PA, his sister Susan Concannon of San Diego, CA, his four children, Victoria Quadros (Robert) of Henderson, NC, Virginia Volpone (Joseph) of Lancaster, PA, John W. Cassels Jr. (Diana) of Downingtown, PA, Samuel O. Cassels (Kerri) of Wonder Lake, IL as well as stepsons Rick Bullotta of West Chester, PA, Jim Bullotta of Paoli, PA, Tom Bullotta of Washington, D.C. and Bill Bullotta of Chester Springs, PA. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

John made friends wherever he went or lived. John worked in the men’s department at The BonTon for fifteen years becoming quite proficient in fashion. He loved to go “junking”, antiquing and collecting. There was never a broken item that he was sure he could fix. He loved to cook and was fearless in concocting new dishes and secret sauces, some good, some not so much but he was always proud of his creations which he shared with family and friends. When illness forced him to live in a residential facility he took up growing plants in the window of his room and creating pots and soil for his plants and cuttings. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

A private service for immediate family will be held at Grove Methodist Cemetery in West Chester, PA on November 25, 2023. A celebration of life will be held at a later date with information to follow.
