Edward A. Powers

Edward A. Powers, 77, of Ephrata, PA passed away peacefully on July, 28, 2016 with his family beside him. Born in Chicopee, MA on March 6, 1939, he was the son of the late Edward P. Powers and Edith S. Powers (Mackechnie) of Wilbraham. Edward worked for Bay State Refining in Chicopee Falls, MA then Colonial Metals in York PA as Plant Manager. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Katherine Powers (Talbot) and his 3 children, son Daryle Powers of Charlotte, NC, daughter Kelly Powers of Northampton, MA, son Seth Powers and his wife Kathy of Albany, NY, nephew Edward Wikar of Sinking Spring PA, niece Holly Francia-Kiss of Newport, RI and grandson Clayton Powers. Edward was predeceased by his sister Maureen Mackechnie of Wilbraham, MA. Edward was a graduate of Ludlow High School and the University of Miami. He and his wife Katherine were residents of Hampden, MA where they spent 25 years restoring a 200 year old farmhouse. Edward coached youth hockey for the town of Hampden for many years. He was an avid train hobbyist and loved Civil War history. There are no memorial services planned at this time.

    Our sympathy truly goes out to you. I was stunned when I read the paper this morning. I just talked with him the last time we were home. He was always a great friend and mentor to me and meant a lot. We will surely miss him.
