Dennis D Shugarts

Dennis “Denny” Dwight Shugarts, 64, of Mount Joy, PA, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Hospice & Community Care of Mount Joy.

Born March 17, 1957 in Clearfield, PA, he was the son of Franklin Maxwell “Max” and the late M. Jane (Nelson) Shugarts.

Dennis was a 1975 graduate of Clearfield High School, where he had a talent for wrestling but preferred playing on the varsity football team. Locally, he worked a paper route that was inherited by each of his siblings and drove the milk truck for Miller Dairy. After leaving Clearfield he worked in IT throughout Lancaster County and its neighboring areas, eventually serving as a systems manager for many businesses. In his free time, he enjoyed attending, filming, and sometimes participating in his children’s sporting events and listening to their many musical performances. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football fan, enjoyed listening and discussing all decades of hard and soft rock, had his own personal library of books that he read through more than once, and never missed an episode of Jeopardy.

In addition to his father Max, also surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Sindhuja Shugarts Devanapally, New York, NY; his daughter Dana Shugarts, Akron, PA; one brother, Doug Shugarts and his wife Barbara, Lewistown, PA; two sisters, Doreen Pierdomenico and her husband John, Temple, PA, and Deb Clark and her husband Keith, Phillipsburg, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

A cremation was held shortly after death.  Friends and family are invited to honor and celebrate his memory at Mt. Joy United Methodist Church, Mt. Joy Rd, Clearfield, PA on Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 11am with Pastor Kenneth Leonard officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Dennis to Mt. Joy United Methodist Church, Mt. Joy Rd, Clearfield, PA, or the Organization for the Responsible Care of Animals (ORCA), 401 E Orange St, Lancaster, PA, where Dennis recently enjoyed volunteering his time.
